Discovering Hidden Motivators
or Why You Do the Things You Do
What is it that causes you to move
into action?
Every day we are faced
with situations in our work and personal life which call
for thought, decisions, opinions, and actions.
Consciously or unconsciously, every decision or course
of action we take is based on our experiences, beliefs,
attitudes, and values. These personal values are
interests, goals, and preferences which guide your life
and your career.
What are the drivers of your
behavior?
Human effort is based on
values. Every great achievement was the result of
someone seeing the value of the expected result. Values
provide the initiative for the diligent pursuit of a
goal or vision. They provide the “WHY” behind a person’s
action.
What activities, careers and
conversations inspire a “passion” within you, causing
you to want to become involved? Can you answer
this question on behalf of each key employee?
Many leaders focus on the
what....what they're doing and what their people are
doing. This is a great first step, but to truly
generate measurable improvements you need to move beyond
WHAT and begin focusing on WHY. Why offers the
answers to the reasons behind the
actions, an understanding of WHY helps you to understand
behavior and attitudes that can impede or create action.
Achievers throughout history have one thing in common –
they knew themselves. Great leaders take it one
step further, not only knowing themselves but also
knowing those they lead.
